The Biological Valuation Map (BWK in Dutch) is an inventory of the biological environment and land cover of Flanders and Brussels. A coloring in shades of green indicates the biological value of the environment in a comprehensive way. An experienced user can read the landscape of the maps and at a glance deduce the "green" nature of a particular area.
Based on the Biological Valuation Map an indicative map was drawn with the spatial distribution of the Natura 2000 habitats. Some mapping units of the BWK can be converted directly into the Natura 2000 habitats (eg. wet heath), but for a majority of the biotopes a true one-to-one relationship does not exist. Some habitat types cannot be inferred from the BWK (eg. water courses).
