Flemish Ecological Network: The Flemish Region advocates the sustainable use of the open space in Flanders. To this purpose, the Flemish Planning Program of 23 September 1997 includes, among others, the delineation of a natural structure, consisting mainly of 125,000 ha of Flemish Ecological Network with nature as a primary function.
