The ‘Manual on Sampling and Analysis of Soils’ describes carefully all necessary steps for the soil sampling and analysis within the ICP-Forests framework. In addition to the guidelines for sampling, the manual describes the reference methods for each of the soil parameters (mandatory and optional).

Over the years, the FSCC Manual has been updated according to the needs of different stakeholders (participating countries, foresters, soil scientists, etc.). A prime prerequisite for data comparability between the different countries is the use of a same reference method throughout the network. Since 2003, the methods described in the manual have been mainly based on ISO standards. All participating countries are encouraged to use these reference methods, in order to improve data comparability.
